The Rickshaw Man

In the Meiji era, Matsugoro is a poor rickshaw driver whose boisterous nature always causes trouble, and yet his compassion and selflessness earn him acceptance into captain Yoshioka’s upper class family. Despite his feeling for the widow, he maintains his loyalty and honorably observes the class difference, which ends up in his own tragedy. Mifune Toshiro portrays the masculine, rough-around-the-edges Matsu in such anuanced manner that evokes our strong emotions and empathy, and leaves us bewildered with his display of raw strength and power in the taiko drum scene.

5. Screenings at M+ Cinema: Tickets are available at URBTIX only. No tickets will be sold at the door. Tickets are available at URBTIX website, mobile app and outlets only. Ticketing services for respective screening will not be available from 30 minutes after the screening begins.
6. While it is the HKIFFS’s policy to secure the best possible print of the original version for all its screenings, the HKIFFS appreciates its patrons’ understanding on occasions when less than perfect screening copies are screened.
