Sorry We Missed You
Dir: Ken Loach
UK/France/Belgium, 2019, 100 minmins, DCP
Cast: Kris Hitchen, Debbie Honeywood, Rhys Stone
A companion piece to the Palme d’Or winner I, Daniel Blake (2016), Ken Loach’s new family drama delivers yet another riveting portrait of the everyday struggles of the British working class with searing human empathy. Suffering from financial tsunami, a middle-aged man who is compelled to become a delivery independent contractor falls victim to unsparing predation of the system. The high-stress compulsiveness of his job soon begins to eat away at his family’s well-being. Taking a galvanizing script from regular scribe Paul Laverty, Loach lays bare his gripping indictment of the modern gig economy – where human value is stripped down to ruthless efficiency.
